Rapids begin a new era after Christmas

On December 29th, the Rapids women will take the pitch once again. They start with what in soccer parlance is called a “friendly” simply meaning it is not part of the regular season and does not count toward the league record. However, these matches are rarely friendly. The Rapids women will take the field at 5:30 pm, and will look to impress the new manager, Rafique Hassim. Competition for starting places will be on the line and you can expect and intense performance.

The men’s team will debut their team of nations inspired update to football in Columbus with a friendly game against Limeño Georgia Soccer Academy (LGSA) out of Doraville, Georgia following the women’s match. LGSA is a premier soccer academy that competes with the academy for Atlanta United. It will be of serious interest to see what impact on the style of play Rafique Hassim has had in his time in the Fountain City. In a paean to internationalism and multiculturalism, LGSA has a heavy El Salvadoran influence.
