Columbus Rapids Futsal League Set for December
October 21, 2021 (COLUMBUS, Ga)- The Columbus Rapids of the National Indoor Soccer League are proud to announce the formation of areas premier futsal soccer league set to begin in December of this year. The Rapids have partnered with Concorde Fire South (formerly Red Star) to form a league for boys and girls to play the game gaining popularity throughout the country.
Eric Steinhauser of Concorde Fire South stated, "We are extremely excited to partner with the Columbus Rapids in bringing Futsal to the Columbus/ Chattahoochee Valley area. This league will be the first true Futsal league in our area. Many of the best players in the world grew up playing Futsal as the fast-paced smaller play style forces players to develop their technical skills and sharpen their decision making. We are very much looking forward to welcoming all the local clubs to the league and strengthening the quality of soccer in our area while also supporting our new Pro men’s and women’s Rapids teams in the process.”
The games will be played at the Harris County Community Center in Hamilton, GA and will be played during the week and on weekends based on availability. The preferred playing surface for the game is that of a basketball court which moves the ball faster and condenses the spaces for players. Rapids women’s Head Coach Miguel XXXX said, “Futsal is a great way for players to develop technical skills. It’s a fast-paced game where you are challenged to think quickly, react quickly, and rely heavily on your footwork. Players are faced with a lot of 1v1 situations which test their skills, moves, and passing ability.”
The mission of the Rapids Youth Development Academy is to help develop soccer in the Chattahoochee Valley and Rapids Men’s Coach, Eddie Miranda is excited to kick off the new league, “I’m so excited to bring futsal to the area. As a player, coach, and instructor, I have witnessed first-hand the accelerated performance of players just by playing this game. It’s great to be apart of an organization that believes in building the foundation of the Rapids at the youth level.”
